wset level 3 Award in wines

Overview

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for enthusiasts. This course provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. You will then be able to accurately assess wines to explain wine styles and quality using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wines®. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines qualification or an equivalent is required. 

This course is aimed at:

  • Wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits and want to obtain an internationally recognised wine qualification.
  • People employed in the drinks and hospitality industries.
  • People wishing to pursue a career as a sommelier and who want to learn more about international wines and wine styles.


The lectures are run online over the course of 9 weeks with an additional two days  for calibration tasting sessions with a WSET internal assessor before the exams. The examination has 2 units: tasting and theory. The pass mark is 55% for each unit.

  5. White, Red and Rosé wines of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece: Learn to identify, describe and explain the characteristics of the principal wines of these regions
  6. White, Red and Rosé wines of the Americas: Learn to identify, describe and explain characteristics of wines from the North and South American winemaking regions and their varietals
  7. Wines of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia: Learn to identify, describe and explain the characteristics of the regions and their varietals
  8. Sparkling and Fortified wines: Learn to identify, describe and explain characteristics of sparkling and fortified wines of the world and their production processes
